According to UNESCO statistics, COVID-19 pandemic has led to school closures in about 200 countries worldwide, affecting 90% students of primary and middle schools and HEIs. With widely adopted online learning, teachers, students and parents are using variable Internet platforms and tools, but they lack the awareness of personal data and privacy security issues. Therefore, learning how to protect personal data and privacy is critical for teachers, students and parents, especially in African and Central Eastern countries where online learning was less used before the pandemic.

On June 18, 2020, an international webinar entitled “How to Protect your Personal Data and Privacy in Online Learning” will be held at 20:00-22:00 (GMT+8). The webinar is organized by UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (INRULED) and Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University (SLIBNU). It aims to explore the personal data and privacy issues in online learning during COVID-19 pandemic. It also aims to discuss how to coordinate government, enterprises and schools to protect the personal data and privacy of online learners. Several experts and educational administrators from China, the United States, Russia, Africa and other countries and regions will attend this webinar, including Dr. Xiaoyun Wang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Tao Zhan, Director of UNESCO IITE; Dr. Joseph South, chief learning officer at ISTE, etc.
